Turntablism Workshop: DJ Basics, Blending & Scratching

Ages 10 and up. NO experience necessary. NO equipment needed. Limited to 10 students.

Two turntables, a DJ mixer, a crate of records, a digital DJ controller, and three hours to learn how DJs actually do it. Our instructor brings the full setup into the studio and every student gets real time on the decks. Whether you are drawn to vinyl or you already have a controller at home, you will learn both so you can DJ on whichever setup you end up with.

What You'll Learn

• Setting up sound and using a pair of turntables with a mixer, and a digital DJ controller • Selecting records and dropping the next song at the right point, like right after the hook • Blending: playing two songs at once and transitioning cleanly into the next record • Song arrangement and format, so you can read a record you don't know well and know what's coming • Beginning and intermediate scratching

Who It's For

Anyone 10 and up who has ever wanted to get behind the decks. You don't need to own turntables or a controller, or know anything about DJing. Our instructor has taught this to students from age 10 up, including students on the autism spectrum, and keeps the group small so nobody is just watching.

Parents of younger students are welcome to sit in and observe.
